Be part of the world premiere of The Space Scratch Symphony by composer Elizabeth Kelly and award-winning turntablist Jon1st with Leicestershire Music and the Leicestershire Schools Symphony Orchestra (LSSO)

The Space Scratch Symphony is a world first, a symphony composed for - and with input from - Leicester & Leicestershire music students with inspiration and involvement from students in schools in the city and county.

We are looking for young Orchestral Musicians up the age of 21, playing to a Grade 6+ standard.

When are Rehearsals?

To participate in the project you must be able to commit to all of the following rehearsal dates:

All rehearsals will take place at Beauchamp City 6th Form College.

Friday 27th January 5:30pm – 9:00pm
Saturday 28th January 10:00am – 4:00pm

Friday 17th March 5:30pm – 9:00pm
Saturday 18th March 10:00am – 4:00pm

Friday 24th March 5.30pm – 9:00pm
Saturday 25th March 10:00am – 4:00pm

Rehearsal times will include:

  • Full orchestra rehearsal and sectionals
  • Rehearsals with turntablists and the choir
  • A turntable workshop for orchestral musicians
  • Opportunity to chat with the composers
  • Optional composition workshop with Elizabeth Kelly
  • A DJ set from Jon1st
  • Pizza!
  • Opportunity to work with musicians from different genres

Free to participate! (A contribution will be asked to pay for food on Friday evenings)

Who can take part?

This project is open to young musicians (up to the age of 21) of Grade 6 and above standard playing orchestral instruments

Participation is FREE.
