Latest advice and guidance about music in schools during new lockdown
We hope that you are keeping safe and well during this challenging time. We have had new advice from DfE and ACE about music teaching in schools which we wanted to share with you and with our schools.
Face to face teaching and ensemble work at music centres or in schools after school hours or at the weekend will need to cease from tomorrow (4 November) for four weeks. The guidance can be found here: The text to note is under 'Stay at home':
Education and childcare
You can leave home for education (formal provision, rather than extracurricular classes such as music or drama tuition), training, registered childcare and children's activities that are necessary to allow parents/carers to work, seek work, or undertake education or training.
Musical learning during the school day which is provided by music services and other hub partners will (and should) continue and that this must be made clear to schools in the guidance and any direct communication with them
Advice from the DfE and Arts Council England is that we continue to work with schools to deliver music provision as long as it complies with the most recent 22nd Oct advice from DfE
DfE and ACE are keen that music services, hubs, teachers are as flexible and supportive to schools as possible as long as activities are safe and compliant. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you want further support, advice or clarification.
Obviously the situation may change rapidly – we will keep our Covid 19 Information & Guidance page updated. This contains the latest guidance for Leicester and Leicestershire schools on safe musical learning. We are continually reviewing our Risk Assessments with regard to Covid 19 - LSMS Covid 19 Risk Assessment 10.11.20
