Sorsonet
A rhythm of the Baga people of the coastal region of Guinea, West Africa; Sorsonet is also the name of a mask that brings good luck and protects against evil. Traditionally, priests keep the mask safely hidden in the forest. Once a year the priest will enter the village wearing the mask and make important predictions, such as whether the harvest that year will be good. Sorsonet was also played for girls initiation into adulthood in a similar context that Fura is played at boys initiation.
