Venue: Salvation Army

Price: £60.00 Per Attendee

The National Plan for Music Education (NPME): The Power of Music to change Lives was launched last year; Within this plan three distinct but interlinked areas of provision are highlighted, that when all in place offer a high-quality music education for our young people. These are:

  • Curriculum Music
  • Instrumental and Vocal Lessons
  • Musical Events and Opportunities

Along with this there is an expectation that all schools should have a Music Development Plan that brings these areas into focus.

Keeping to the vision of the NPME, Leicestershire Music have put together a day of training, to give you food for thought in these areas, through training from National Experts in music education.

The Day will consist with:

9am Arrival with Tea/Coffee

9.30 – 12.00 Mark Phillips Keynote and School Development Plans
In this workshop, Mark will consider the recommendation from the National Plan for Music Education that all schools should have a School Music Development Plan. He will explore the differences between activity and quality, discuss what makes music a unique and essential part of the curriculum, reflect on generic 'whole school' teaching strategies and the extent to which these are effective in music, and look at how relevant assessment in music is vital in raising standards. Mark's presentation will also draw on recent publications such as the Model Music Curriculum and Ofsted's research review in music, and will consider how good curriculum design can help give pupils access to whatever music they will encounter in their future lives.

12.00 – 1.00 Lunch included

1.00– 2.30 – Sharon Durrant – Secondary singing (KS3) With a focus on transition from Primary to Secondary school, Sharon will help to ensure that singing is embedded from the word go at year 7. With a focus on vocal teaching within the NPME, she will lead an inspiring and interactive singing session.

2.30 – 4.00 – Rachel Shapey – Composing for KS4 Making music composition accessible for all. Rachel will share tried and tested knowledge, techniques and resources to inspire and empower the next generation of composers with a focus on KS4
