Young Person Case Study - Estelle

1. Basic Profile Data

Gender: Female
Age: 15
Ethnicity: Unknown

2. Starting Point

Estelle first got involved with Leicestershire Music via the youth voice open mic offer. She had never attended any sessions or events from LM before but was taken by the potential to perform in front of an audience and share her original music.

3. The young person's participation in the project

She came to the open mic rehearsal sessions, held at Soft Touch Arts, and was welcomed by the team and other young people in attendance. Estelle was understandably nervous and somewhat apprehensive to step onto the stage to perform her own track, however with the support and encouragement of the staff and young people she gave a great rendition of her song.

Estelle then performed her track at the first open mic event held at 2Funky Café in the heart of Leicester City. The event was attended by 100 people and Estelle brought a good number of family and friends to the venue to cheer her on. She sang with such passion and style that the crowd erupted.

A recording of Estelle performing her track was sent to Dean Jackson at BBC Introducing and has received positive praise. Leicestershire Music have also helped Estelle secure funding to get the backing track licence released from the producer's website. We have also supported her with studio time and she has now been able to record her track and share it via SoundCloud, we continue to support Estelle and have additional time in the recording studio booked for next week.
