Help with Costs

We believe that music should be inclusive and accessible to young people and are working hard to remove as many barriers as possible.

We are pleased to be able to offer pupils in receipt of Free School Meals a 50% discount on Group lessons. (100% discounts are also available for Looked After Children on all lessons).

Please note that we will require proof of entitlement, such as a letter from your school, before discounts can be applied.

Please complete the 'Fee Discounts' Application form available on the registration page here (opens on a new page and is found towards the right hand side of the screen).

How do I Stop my Lessons?

Please de-register through your SpeedAdmin account. Step by step instructions are available available here. If you are unable to de-register via SpeedAdmin then please email LMPlay@leics.gov.uk giving your child's name, the school's name, the instrument you have been learning and your reason for de-registration.

There is a 5 week notice period for anyone stopping lessons. This 5 week notice period begins when we receive your request for your child to stop lessons. Your child is welcome to attend lessons up to and including the end of this notice period.

I Need to Hire an Instrument for Lessons

Free instrument hire is included for the first term of instrumental lessons. Following this, instrument hire will be continued at our standard rates (from £11 per month) unless you are able to provide your own instrument.

We will automatically arrange for an instrument to be made available for your child's first lesson. Please let us know by email to LMPlay@leics.gov.uk if you do not require this.

Should you stop having lessons you can continue to hire the instrument however our normal hire fees will apply.

For further guidance please see our Instrument Hire page

Individual & Group Lesson Refund Information

My child missed a lesson; can I have a refund?
If you child has missed a lesson, we are not usually able to apply a refund unless there are exceptional circumstances.

The school cancelled a lesson; can I have a refund?
If the school cancelled a lesson, giving us notice of the cancellation, we will aim to rearrange teaching so the lesson can take place on another day. If we are unable to make up the lessons at another time you may be eligible for a refund.

My teacher was not in for a lesson; can I have a refund?
If your teacher was not available for a lesson, they will try to make up that lesson at some point in the year. We charge for 33 lessons a year but aim to teach more lessons than this (to retain flexibility in our teaching schedule). If it is approaching the end of the academic year (or you are stopping lessons) and you think your child has not had their full allowance of lessons for the year, then please fill out a refund request form available here

Invoice & Payment Information

Do you take childcare vouchers as payment?
Leicestershire Music is not able to take childcare vouchers as payment for any lessons or activities as we are not a registered childcare provider.

Do you offer monthly direct debits?
We are currently unable to offer monthly direct debits but are looking into this for the future.

Which lessons are covered in my invoice?
We invoice once a term to cover all lessons taking place within that term. Invoices will therefore include some lessons that have not happened yet. Please see further information regarding lessons missed by LM Staff.

  • Autumn term – Saturday 6th September and 19th December 2025
  • Spring term – Monday 5th January and Friday 27th March 2026
  • Summer term – Monday 13th April and Tuesday 7th July 2026

Can I pay in instalments?
It is possible to amend your invoices into smaller instalments. This is done on an individual request basis. To request this, please contact our finance team on lmfinance@leics.gov.uk who will work with you to set this up.

I can't pay my invoice, who do I talk to?
We understand that this sometimes happens and we are happy to work with you to explore the available options. Please contact one of the finance team on lmfinance@leics.gov.uk (Tel 0116 3050400) to discuss how we can support you.
