Support for Schools
Ofsted requires Music Education Hubs to have regular and supportive, challenging conversations with each of their schools about the quality of music education for all pupils in the school.
Following the recent publication of the Ofsted report ''Music in schools: what hubs must do The challenging conversation with schools", there has been an increased impetus on Music Education Hubs to engage with schools and form closer working relationships.
Ofsted have tasked Music Education Hubs to create a School Music Education Plan (SMEP) to enable them to articulate clearly to schools what is available to support them and to promote closer working between schools and the hub.
Ofsted states that music education hubs should
- expect and secure that all schools engage with hubs and the National Plan for Music Education
- have regular and supportive, challenging conversations with each of their schools about the quality of music education for all pupils in the school
- support all schools in improving the music education they provide, especially in class lessons, and support them in evaluating it robustly
- offer expert training and consultancy to schools to support leaders and staff in recognising and understanding musical learning and good progress by pupils in music.
We are looking forward to engaging with you to improve the quality of provision in music education for all children and young people in Leicester-Shire.
There are a number of ways that we would like to work together with our schools:
