Fresh from the release of their new CD, O Beata Virgo Maria, and a series of concerts where reviews described them as a 'choir of exceptional ability', luminatus professional vocal ensemble will be performing JS Bach's masterpiece, 300 hundred years after its first performance.
Bach performed the St John Passion on several occasions, making several changes, before returning to his original ideas. Please join us for what will be an intimate performance, designed to explore the drama of the passion story through the text of the St John gospel, interspersed with emotional commentary from soloists and dramatic asides from the 'chorus'. The aim will be to recreate the type of small vocal ensemble experienced by Bach in Leipzig, sung A 415 pitch, with the 18th Century Sinfonia, using period instruments.
