On Tuesday 9th October Royal Birmingham Conservatoire is holding a Musicology Showcase from 1.30pm to 5.30pm. This event, which is free to attend and will also be live-streamed, provides some snapshots of the diverse range of research undertaken by our academic staff, from establishing how to perform early music notation, via the effect of World War I on the musical experience of civilians to Janet K. Halfyard's seminal study of Danny Elfman's Batman scores.
The day includes insights into the challenges of preparing music as varied as Rameau and Messiaen for performance, evidence for how Italian operas were staged around 1700 as well as the findings of recent research on Beethoven and the influence of the BBC on New Music. The Showcase concludes with a 'Pick on a Prof' session, in which our research staff will be available to answer questions on any musical topic, both from the live audience and sent via Twitter.
