The Power of Dalcroze – Harnessing Musical Understanding through physical expression

This session is being led by a representative from one of our partners, Playground Proms. Teachers attending this Twilight CPD session will come away with practical experience of adaptable music and movement exercises and games to use in the classroom.

Dalcroze is a highly adaptable and inclusive method of creative music education where students learn through physical experience, moving in response to musical cues. The founder of this method (Emile Jaques-Dalcroze) believed that everyone learns best when they are enjoying themselves and feel a sense of belonging, so having fun is an integral part of the experience - perfect for a relaxed but purposeful CPD session at the end of a long day!

Aims of the session:

• To engage teachers in enjoyable music and movement activities

• To inspire teachers to incorporate music and movement into their classrooms

• To increase confidence in and build on their musical skills

Objectives

• Through experiencing music and movement activities, to give participants an embodied knowledge of some fundamental musical skills

• To show how to adapt exercises for different ages and stages and encourage creativity

• To show how music and movement activities link to other curriculum areas (music is integral not separate)

A totally practical session - no need to write anything!
