Posted: Mon, 28 Sep 2020 13:13
Mahogany Opera is looking to extend its team of delivery artists and project coordinators working on their national Snappy Operas programme.
We want to hear from dynamic and talented individuals, with experience of, and a strong interest in, working with children, from the following disciplines:
- Stage Directors
- Musical Directors/Choral Leaders
- Project Managers/Project Coordinators/Stage Managers
Mahogany Opera is a leading UK opera and music theatre company stretching the boundaries of what opera can be and who it is for. A major strand of our work is designed around children and young people, creating opera with local communities. We try to involve them in everything we do, surprise them with extraordinary experiences, challenge their existing ideas and share with them the power and joy of combining music with theatre.
Snappy Operas is a nationwide project that works with primary schools and regional partners to share the joy of opera and performance. Artistic teams help children aged 7-11 to stage their own performance of 10-minute operas that have been created specially for the project, as well as providing teachers with training to develop their skills in delivering music, drama & arts activities in the classroom, supporting both the delivery of the project and continued engagement with the arts.
Mahogany Opera are seeking Directors, Musical Directors, Repetiteurs and Regional Coordinators that will form the delivery teams on the Snappy Opera Festival 2021, as well as extend our pool of practitioners for potential future work. Previous experience of high-quality delivery of work with children & young people is a must. We would love to hear from both those experienced in opera as well as practitioners from other disciplines who have a keen interest in working in this genre.
Mahogany Opera works with a range of communities across the UK and applications are actively encouraged from artists that reflect the diversity of our participants and audiences. We are particularly interested in hearing from practitioners in our 2021 project regions (the North East, Yorkshire & the East Midlands), people from all walks of life that are passionate about inspiring young people through the arts, and practitioners from under-represented groups.
Freelance contracts will be offered for work on the Snappy Opera 2021 project where appropriate. Successful artists unable to engage with the project in 2021 will be added to our database for potential future work.
Potential applicants wanting to know more about these opportunities are invited to join us for our optional "Get To Know Us" remote gathering on Friday 2nd October, 10am. This will be an informal zoom gathering where you can learn more about the work of Mahogany Opera and the Snappy Opera programme, find out more about the specific roles from the existing team and meet/network with other delivery artists and project coordinators.
