UK Taiko Festival taking place in Leicester this July!

The Festival features 3 concerts all at the Sue Townsend Theatre.

  • Feast of Taiko Fri 5th July, 7.30pm – This concert is a showcase of youth taiko groups from across the UK. There are four groups performing from Leicester and 4 groups coming from Hampshire, Shropshire, the Humber and Norwich. This concert is now sold out.
  • Taiko Beats, Sat 6th July, 12.15pm – This concert features 6 adult community taiko groups from across the UK performing for 10 minutes each.
  • Taiko Without Borders, Sat 6th July, 7.30pm – This is the headline concert featuring Kaoly Asano (Japan), Kion Dojo (Germany), Tsuchigumo Daiko (Scotland) and Tano Taiko (England).

Other than the concerts the LCB Depot will be the Festival Hub on the Saturday featuring outdoor performances and presentations. On the Sunday lunchtime there will be an outdoor performance at Humberstone Gate West of a piece called ELEVEN, one of Kaoly Asano's signature taiko pieces written in the aftermath of the 2011 tsunami in Japan.
