On Wednesday 6th March, LSMS Staff attended the 2019 Music Teacher Awards for Excellence at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane Hotel in Piccadilly as the SEND Music Curriculum was shortlisted for the Outstanding SEND Resource Award.
The finalists for the category were Charanga CREATE, Leicester-shire Schools Music Service SEND Curriculum, Open Orchestras, Transformance Music & Inspiring Music MEH and ABC Creative Music.
The highly skilled SEND teachers, who are also LSMS Lead Practitioners, attended too: Matt Green; Ashmount School, Kate Hallam-Jones; Birkett House School and Mark Wilson; Dorothy Goodman School. These teachers had journeyed from setting the vision for the SEND Music Curriculum, to planning and creating it.
Although the SEND Music Curriculum was not awarded the winning resource, nevertheless it is fantastic recognition that this resource is a much needed and high quality resource and puts it on the platform alongside other national resources.
The newly written Music Commission report states that their 10 year vision is that Music services and music organisations, and Music Education Hubs, [will be] providing increased support for the music curriculum in alternative settings, such as special schools, pupil referral units and hospital schools to ensure equity of provision. The SEND Music Curriculum that LSMS has already created and working with to support all SEND schools and SEND Units demonstrates we are certainly moving in the right direction.
