LSSO Rehearsal Venue Change for Summer Term

Dear Parent / Carer / Student,

Due to the amalgamation of schools on the Wigston College/ Academy Campus (formerly Guthlaxton / Abington Campus), the usual LSSO rehearsal venue is undergoing significant building work, meaning that we are unable to use it for the current Summer Term. (Big Band however will still continue to use it being a smaller group)

We have luckily managed to secure the use of the Salvation Army Leicester South Building which is also able to store our percussion equipment and has room for sectional rehearsals. The address for the Salvation Army is;

Ladysmith Road
South Wigston
Leicester
LE18 4UZ.

The Salvation Army is just off the main road between South Wigston and the Pork Pie Roundabout - so you might be best using the postcode LE18 4UZ which is Namur Road.

The first rehearsal there will be 16th April. There is only 1 all day rehearsal this term on the 21st May and the other sectional morning is the 30th April. The LSSO concert is the 9th July (no morning rehearsal but one in the afternoon)

  • Students using the LSMS Saturday Transport will now need to catch a shuttle to the Salvation Army from Guthlaxton. It will drop them on the same side as the SA – when the rehearsal has finished, students should wait in the car park until everyone is ready and they will then be escorted across the road to wait for the shuttle bus to take them to Guthlaxton ready to catch their onward bus.
  • Students who normally walk to LSSO rehearsals an catch the shuttle to and from the Salvation Army.
  • The Salvation Army building is in the middle of a residential area - I have been asked by the management to ask you for your consideration when driving in and out. If you would prefer your child to travel on the shuttle bus, please ensure they arrive at Guthlaxton for 9.50am –they will arrive back at 12.55pm.

Please remember the first string Tour rehearsal is on the 16th April in the afternoon – this will also take place at the Salvation Army. It is within walking distance of shops for those who need to buy lunch.
