The new National Curriculum for Music - CPD Training Course - June 20th

Leicester-Shire Schools Music Service are providing two CPD training courses on the new National Curriculum for Music at the Salvation Army Leicester South in South Wigston, Leicester. The two courses - The New National Curriculum for Music MU01 (primary), and The New National Curriculum for Music MU02 (secondary) will provide expert information and guidance for those involved in music education and training. The primary and secondary course will be led separately (phase specific) but with an opportunity to network with colleagues (primary and secondary together) over lunch.
The course objectives are:
- To update colleagues on the new national curriculum for music
- To introduce ways to plan for progression, assess pupil progress, develop your curriculum and resources
- To develop strategies for improving teaching and learning through the new national curriculum
- To confer with colleagues
The New National Curriculum for Music MU01 (primary)
This course is suitable for suitable for primary specialist and non specialist music co-ordinators, music teachers, class teachers and TAs and secondary music teachers, Heads of Music and aspiring Heads of music. The course is led by national music education expert Sarah Hennessey, a member of the expert panel advising the DFE on the music curriculum. Sarah is currently chairing the Teaching Agency's Expert Panel for Primary Music Teacher Training to develop guidance and resources for teacher trainers in response to the new primary curriculum and the National Music Plan. Sarah is an experienced music education advisor and consultant and has a research interest in issues relating to music education in pre-school, primary and secondary phases: specialist and non-specialist teacher education, consultancy, research into the composing process and its assessment, instrumental teaching, and professional musicians in school.
The New National Curriculum for Music MU02 (secondary)
This course is suitable for suitable for Music teachers, Heads of Music and aspiring Heads of music. The course is led by national music education expert Anthony Anderson. Anthony is on the national expert panel advising the DFE on the music curriculum and is Head of Music at Beauchamp College. He also works as a coach and mentor and was an AST for music supporting schools across the county. Anthony is the Chair of the Expert Panel advising the DFE on the music curriculum and is a music consultant for Channel 4 learning and a frequent contributor to music education debate journals.
