Lateral Flow Tests & Symptoms of Covid

To provide initial additional safety for staff and pupils, we will advise that a lateral flow test is taken the day before or on the morning of the 11th September if possible. Please note that this is not compulsory. If the test is positive please follow the guidance below:

Covid symptoms - When an individual develops COVID-19 symptoms or has a positive test
Children, staff and other adults should follow public health advice on when to self-isolate and what to do. They should not come to the event if they have symptoms or other reasons requiring them to stay at home due to the risk of them passing on COVID-19 (for example they are required to quarantine or have a positive test).

If anyone at the event develops COVID-19 symptoms, however mild, we will contact parents and request that the child is picked up immediately. They will then be required to follow public health advice.

For everyone with symptoms, they should avoid using public transport and, wherever possible, be collected by a member of their family or household.

If a child is awaiting collection, they will be left in a room on their own if possible and safe to do so. A window will be opened for fresh air ventilation if possible.

The household (including any siblings) should follow the PHE stay at home: guidance for households with possible or confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

Social Distancing

Social distancing is something that we are mindful of and we will respect young people's views if they request to social distance from others. Health and safety guidelines about social distancing state that that this will take place as far as is reasonably practicable.

Music Mark guidance states that string groups, guitar ensembles and percussion do not need to be distanced; the need for rock bands to distance will depend on how many vocalists there are.

For woodwind and brass ensembles, it is wise to allow more space than usual. The less effective the ventilation and the longer the session, the more distance should be allowed. Full guidance available here

Face to Face Rehearsals

Face to face rehearsals can go ahead if all parties agree. If parents / carers have given permission for their child to attend this event / future rehearsals they have an agreement with Leicestershire Music. If parents do not wish their children to attend please inform Leicestershire Music on the following Email address: LMPlay@leics.gov.uk

Face Coverings

Following the advice of Brass Band England, all pupils ( who play any instrument) may wish to wear their own face coverings whilst in rehearsals if appropriate and whilst moving around the venue unless they are exempt. Wearing a face covering can help us protect each other and reduce the spread of Covid.

Amount of Pupils Rehearsing Together

Government guidance is available here. This states that organised activities for children may take place in groups of any number.

Blown Instruments

We would like to ask all brass and woodwind players to bring their own cloth / towel to place on the floor to collect any water from their instruments. They will be responsible for removing / disposing of this cloth at the end of the rehearsal.

Ventilation

At rehearsal venues, Leicestershire Music will ensure that windows and doors are kept open as practically can be opened to ensure natural ventilation is maximised. If there are not windows in the rehearsal space, doors are to be kept open and fans may be available where possible to create air movement.

Equipment

Pupils are to bring their own stand music stand where possible and any vocal /singing work will be done outside. Pupils are advised not to share instruments - particularly blown instruments.

We encourage regular hand washing and LM will provide hand sanitiser across rehearsal venues.
