FAQs Covid & Rehearsals
Following Government advice and consultation with Leicestershire County Council the following guidelines are in place for out of hours settings:
Sign in / out Procedure
On arrival at Leicestershire Music groups, students will be signed in. If a student is primary school age, we advise that they should be accompanied to their rehearsal venue by an adult. From secondary school age, students may travel independently.
If students are travelling independently on a Saturday, parents / carers are able to log into SpeedAdmin and see that their child arrived and has been signed in, should they wish. This will be updated by 1100 hrs each Saturday morning.
Sign out procedure & Safeguarding
Please can all parents and carers ensure that they have completed our Sign in / out policy – Sign in /out policy
- Students who have permission to leave the rehearsal on their own at the end will be allowed to sign themselves out of rehearsals.
- Unless otherwise stated, students will only be released from the rehearsal once signed out by an adult named on the sign out form.
- If students need to be collected by a different adult, please advise us ASAP via these phone numbers (Saturday rehearsals - 07871 571428 and Weekday rehearsals - 07936 349073).
- If the person collecting a student is not the named on the sign out form, Leicestershire Music will telephone the emergency contact listed on SpeedAdmin to get permission to release the student at the end of the rehearsal.
If your child is unable to attend through illness or for any other reasons, please let us know in advance by emailing LMplay@leics.gov.uk
Alternatively you may ring the Leicestershire Music Emergency Contact Number 07871 571428 and leave details of your name, the pupil's name, Performance Group/s and your contact number.
Lateral Flow Tests & Symptoms of Covid
To provide initial additional safety for staff and pupils, we will advise that a lateral flow test is taken the day before or on the morning of the 11th September if possible. Please note that this is not compulsory. If the test is positive please follow the guidance below:
Covid symptoms - When an individual develops COVID-19 symptoms or has a positive test
Children, staff and other adults should follow public health advice on when to self-isolate and what to do. They should not come to the event if they have symptoms or other reasons requiring them to stay at home due to the risk of them passing on COVID-19 (for example they are required to quarantine or have a positive test).
If anyone at the event develops COVID-19 symptoms, however mild, we will contact parents and request that the child is picked up immediately. They will then be required to follow public health advice.
For everyone with symptoms, they should avoid using public transport and, wherever possible, be collected by a member of their family or household.
If a child is awaiting collection, they will be left in a room on their own if possible and safe to do so. A window will be opened for fresh air ventilation if possible.
The household (including any siblings) should follow the PHE stay at home: guidance for households with possible or confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infection.

Face to Face Rehearsals
Face to face rehearsals can go ahead if all parties agree. If parents / carers have given permission for their child to attend this event / future rehearsals they have an agreement with Leicestershire Music. If parents do not wish their children to attend please inform Leicestershire Music on the following Email address: LMPlay@leics.gov.uk
Following the advice of Brass Band England, all pupils ( who play any instrument) may wish to wear their own face coverings whilst in rehearsals if appropriate and whilst moving around the venue unless they are exempt. Wearing a face covering can help us protect each other and reduce the spread of Covid.
Amount of Pupils Rehearsing Together
Government guidance is available here. This states that organised activities for children may take place in groups of any number.
We would like to ask all brass and woodwind players to bring their own cloth / towel to place on the floor to collect any water from their instruments. They will be responsible for removing / disposing of this cloth at the end of the rehearsal.
At rehearsal venues, Leicestershire Music will ensure that windows and doors are kept open as practically can be opened to ensure natural ventilation is maximised. If there are not windows in the rehearsal space, doors are to be kept open and fans may be available where possible to create air movement.
Pupils are to bring their own stand music stand where possible and any vocal /singing work will be done outside. Pupils are advised not to share instruments - particularly blown instruments.
We encourage regular hand washing and LM will provide hand sanitiser across rehearsal venues.
