Free Music CPD for Special Ed Schools & Alternative Provision

What does a high quality music lesson in my setting look like? How do we craft activities suitable for a wide range of abilities in a single classroom? How do we unlock the music potential of our pupils?
MEHEM Uprising! has develop a series of training sessions specially designed for Special Education Schools and alternative settings that attempt to answer these questions. Suitable for teachers, TAs and LSAs, the offer is made up of four strands:
- Musicking for the Terrified
Accessible musical activities for classroom teachers & TAs/LSAs - Vibration, Sensation and Improvisation
Music-making for Pupils with Complex Needs - Studio Freedom
Music Production for pupils in Alternative Provision - Curriculum Design
Design a music curriculum for your special education school
All of the sessions take place between Dec 22- April 23 and are completely free, with support available to cover the cost of resources.
Uprising! Project lead Ben Sellers explains the rationale behind the training:
"Having spoken to and visited dozens of settings over the two years of the Uprising project so far, we know that there is a need for training that focusses on specific cohorts and offers practical activities and approaches to music-making. The first training strand is for teachers, TAs and LSAs who perhaps aren't so confident making music themselves. It will be packed full of activities that can be implemented straight away in a variety of specialist settings. The next two training strands focus on pupils with complex needs and pupils in alternative provision, two groups that require specially tailored approaches and activities. Our final strand supports music coordinators and senior leaders to create robust and effective curriculum documents for their settings.".
All the training strands are free, with some support available to cover the cost of resources and teacher cover.
