Leicestershire Music are pleased to announce that the Music Educator's Conference is back for 2024, 'Leics Get Together' from 9:00am - 4:00pm on Wednesday 26th June 2024.
We are excited that along with the usual opportunities to reflect, learn, network and make music there are also lots of 'news'.

There are plenty of workshops to choose from whether you teach in a Secondary, Primary or Special school. Feedback from last year's symposium was teachers left with new in-depth knowledge that they could use to make changes in the school on a leadership level.
We hope that by attending the variety of presentations throughout the day will feel challenged, whilst also appreciate hearing things from a different perspective.

The Music Educator's Conference is a great place for networking and learning from each other and this year there is a planned session in the day for teachers to share their practice and learn from each other.

Workshop Information
Primary - Compose your own Beatbox Sequence - Shay Sharma
Beatboxing is ever growing in popularity and can be an extremely accessible way into music, requiring very little to no external equipment. Shay will teach you the basic beatbox sounds such as the Kick, Snare & Hi-Hat and will show you how to breakdown rhythms using beatbox notation. You will be introduced to simple music technology such as 4 channel mixers.
Primary - Sing Your Own Song - Emily Barden
An interactive workshop exploring rounds and part singing for upper KS2. Along with learning some existing repertoire we will be creating our own music, and you will leave the session being able to compose, perform and lead rounds with your KS2 classes!
Primary - Sound Solutions: A comprehensive guide to audio capture in a Primary School setting - Tim Clay & James Hellard
KS2 - Sound Solutions: A comprehensive guide to audio capture in a Primary School setting
This session will demonstrate best practice for capturing audio within a Primary School setting. Whether it's a musical performance within the classroom, using sound effects for an assembly, or even creating a podcast, this session will include tutorials, practical advice and examples of musical software and hardware, ideal for school use.
Primary - Transitional Singing & Music Making - Nicola Atkins & Emma Burns
Secondary - Beatbox & Composition - Shay Sharma

Secondary - Creating a KS3 Singing Culture - Emily Barden
Using creative ideas including composition and song writing with the voice, join Emily Barden for a fun, interactive workshop that will provide repertoire, hints and tips for creating and keeping a singing culture in your school at KS3. Explore part singing, changing voices, and tips for successful group leading. Be prepared to sing… lots!
Secondary - Cross-examining music curriculum: meaning, design & discussion - Dr Anthony Anderson
For this session, we'll be putting curriculum in the dock and trying to tease out what music curriculum means and to whom. We'll be looking at how it's been positioned by writers and commentators and what this means for our classroom practices.
There will also be plenty of time for discussion and sharing our ideas about music curriculum and looking at how we each approach and design it. Finally, we'll be thinking about the demands on the music curriculum we come up with from our pupils and their parents, our line-managers and our politicians of course!
If you're interested in curriculum, this session is for you. We'll be drilling into some details, so this session is a bit longer, but there will be plenty of opportunity for reflection and coffee during our thinking too!

Special & Primary - Meaningful minutes of music! - Nicola Atkins & Beth Carr
In this session we will be thinking about how to make the school day more musical. The National Plan for Music Education advocates at least 1 hour a week of music but in a tightly packed timetable this can be hard to find! How can we utilise transition time to be music-making time? How can we turn the daily routines into songs and use music to reenergise our brains.?
Come and explore short musical and singing activities to use throughout the school day. The session will include take-away ideas and resources to help with classroom transition and regaining focus, brain breaks, cross-curricular links and regular retrieval of music elements for EYFS, KS1 and KS2.
Special - Classroom Music Lessons in Special Schools - Anna Wolloff
What do class music lessons in Special Schools and settings look like? Are we relying on listening and singing, do we brave the instrument box, or maybe even take a trip to the music room every week?
In this session we will look at:
- Setting the scene for a music lesson and why it matters.
- Flexible lesson routines that work for different teaching skill levels and different children's needs.
- How to include instrumental playing with more confidence.
- Discussing what progress looks like for children with additional needs.
- Finding ways to make music enjoyable for teachers and pupils!
Special - Sensory looping with loop stations and iPads - Shay Sharma
Develop your understanding on the world of looping.
Loop technology captures sound exploration immediately and can effectively build musical ideas and soundscapes in a live environment. Shay will walk you through his process of capturing sounds from materials and vocals to create ambient soundscapes.
