Opportunities for young musicians at the BBC Proms

Since it was founded in 1895, the BBC Proms has been committed to bringing classical music to new audiences as well as nurturing the next generation of talented performers and composers. This summer the BBC Proms continues its commitment by offering the young people you work with a variety of opportunities to attend free-of-charge workshops and masterclasses with high-profile artists featured in the 2017 BBC Proms season. Read below for more information and help us spread the word to the young people you work with!

BBC Proms Sessions
BBC Proms Sessions, run in partnership with Royal Albert Hall Education & Outreach, are a series of free workshops and masterclasses which offer young people from all musical backgrounds the opportunity to develop their skills and confidence through working with some of the fantastic artists appearing at the Proms. In 2017, Proms Sessions will include practical music-making workshops with jazz trumpeter James Morrison on 3 August (open to 16-25 year-olds) and musicians from Chineke! on 22 August (open to 11-18 year-olds). Find out more.

BBC Proms Inspire Day
Our BBC Proms Inspire Day on 14 August will bring together young composers aged 12 to 18 from across the UK to take part in a range of workshops and activities including film music composition with Michael Price, vocal composition with Juice ensemble, collaborative composition with Fraser Trainer, speed-mentoring with our team of Inspire Ambassadors and a Q&A where attendees will get a chance to ask questions and get tips from the composers involved in the day. There will be something for everyone, whether an experienced composer or a beginner who is curious to find out more! Participants will also receive two free Promming passes to Prom 39. Find out more.

BBC Proms Youth Ensemble
The BBC Proms Youth Ensemble is open to 16-25 year-olds working at a grade 8+ standard on their instrument. Young musicians will have the chance to work alongside professional musicians and Bang On A Can All-Stars and perform a brand new piece by Michael Gordon in Prom 44 on 17 August. We are still looking for applications from the following instrumentalists: trumpets, soprano sax, tuba (Bb or C), trombone, euphonium (Bb or C) and percussion. Find out more.
