Course description

Create and Sing Carmen, the Royal Opera House's new national dramatic singing programme! This singing programme, based on Bizet's opera Carmen, will inspire a generation of young people to sing and engage with opera. It provides schools with a new route into singing linked to drama and character.

This full day CPD course, led by a singing specialist and director, will develop the skills of the classroom teacher to teach dramatic singing and includes follow-up resources of a 10-week scheme of work with curriculum links and specially created short films featuring Royal Opera House artists and the Youth Opera Company. The online resources include backing tracks, arrangements for children's voices and a creative singing challenge.

Course Leader: Kim Waldock
A graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Kim Waldock began her career as a classroom music specialist. During this time she was a Senior State Music examiner, served on syllabus committees, and delivered classroom resources and training for Arts organisations and the Association of Independent Schools across Australia. In 2009 she joined the Sydney Symphony Orchestra as Director of Learning and Engagement, expanding the program with digital and CPD initiatives. She also wrote the music content of the National Australian Curriculum in the Arts, now being implemented in all Australian Schools, and chaired the Music Education Advocacy Board for the Music Council of Australia. In June 2015 she was appointed General Manager of the Royal Opera House's Learning and Participation team.
