Morning session - Using singing to teach Modern Foreign Languages
Objectives
• To provide activities and ideas to use singing effectively whilst teaching foreign languages
• To provide singing resources to be used in foreign language teaching
Course description
Singing encourages children to express their emotions and sharpens their ability to communicate, but one of the biggest benefits of singing is the repeated use of the 'memory muscle'.
Learning a piece of information attached to a tune embeds that information more rapidly in a child's mind. During this fun practical session Helen will explore the benefits of using songs to support the teaching and learning of Modern Foreign Languages in the classroom. Delegates will learn songs rhymes and chants that they can use to enhance their teaching.
This course is suitable for class teachers, NQTs, TAs and MFL teachers and music co-ordinators who will be training other staff.
Afternoon session - Singing spellings and singing times tables
Objectives
• To provide activities and ideas to use singing effectively to support the teaching of spellings and times tables
• To provide singing resources to be used in teaching spellings and times tables
Course description
Singing has long been known to develop 'Memory Muscle' Learning a piece of information attached to a tune embeds that information more rapidly in a child's mind. Using rhythmic rapping, chants and songs Helen will transform the learning of times tables and spellings - whether it's learning by rote, applying calculations or testing spelling and grammar rules in this fun practical session.
This course is suitable for class teachers, NQTs, TAs, Numeracy and Literacy co-ordinators and music co-ordinators who will be training other staff.
