Singing for the Scared - Led by Charles MacDougall

Course Objectives

• A grasp of basic vocal technique required for leading adolescent singers;
• Increased confidence and ownership of your voice;
• Year 7-9 appropriate musical games to develop musicianship and ensemble skills;
• A repertoire of songs for use with KS3;

A knowledge of voice change and the requirements/limitations of singers undergoing it (both male and female).

Course Description
Led by leading choral educator, vocal coach and animateur (and former member of VOCES8), Charles MacDougall, this course is primarily aimed at KS3 music teachers who might be afraid of using
singing with years 7-9 pupils, although teachers of other year groups will also find much of use from it. The course will be packed full of ideas and resources to take away and use in the classroom, e.g. warm ups, repertoire, ways into part singing, musical games and techniques for engagement with that age group. The course will also touch upon voice change (for both boys and girls) and look at the circumstances and requirements of singers entering this period of vocal development.

Course Leader: Charles MacDougall
Charles MacDougall is a British tenor, choral animateur and vocal coach. He was a founder-member of vocal ensemble VOCES8, singing with the group for over 7 years. An experienced choral animateur, he works for the London Symphony Orchestra, London Youth Choir, the Snape Maltings Friday Afternoons Project, is a Chorus Master for Gabrieli Roar and directs two choirs in London. Formerly the Senior Vocal Coach at Portsmouth Cathedral, Whitgift School and Croydon Minster, he is now the Choral Specialist for The Voices Foundation, coaches for the Royal School of Church Music, and is Consultant Vocal Coach at Derby Cathedral and Radley College
